Past Project #2: Turn-key Upgrade of an Odorization System
Location: Pennsylvania
MRR provided a turn-key upgrade of an odorization station. Due to space limitations, the new equipment had to be installed on the exact footprint of the old equipment. However, for safety reasons, the odorization could not be interrupted during the decommissioning of the old system and until the new system was functional. The upgrade had to be seamless to natural gas consumers. The solution proposed by MRR was to install a temporary (rented) odorization system which provided uninterrupted odorization during the upgrade work.
The project included the following steps:
1) Rental, installation and start-up of a temporary portable odorant tank and temporary odorizer for each odorant injection point.
2) Draining of the odorant from the old tank using MRR bobtail truck, and temporary storage at MRR odorant tank farm in Philippi, WV.
3) Decommissioning of the old tank and odorizer panel, and removal from station (transported to MRR treatment facility in Philippi, WV).
4) Installation, filling and start-up of the new tank and new odorizer.
5) Decommissioning and removal of temporary equipment.
6) Final treatment and destruction of old equipment.
